A comparison of element agglomeration algorithms for unstructured geometric multigrid

نویسندگان

چکیده

This paper compares the performance of seven different element agglomeration algorithms on unstructured triangular/tetrahedral meshes when used as part a geometric multigrid. Five these come from literature AMGe multigrid and mesh partitioning methods. The resulting schemes are tested matrix-free two problems in 2D 3D taken radiation transport applications; one which is diffusion limit. In dimensions all coarsening result methods perform similarly, but three aggressive performed by METIS produces shortest runtimes setup times.

An Agglomeration Multigrid Method for Unstructured Grids

A new agglomeration multigrid method is proposed in this paper for general unstructured grids. By a proper local agglomeration of finite elements, a nested sequence of finite dimensional subspaces are obtained by taking appropriate linear combinations of the basis functions from previous level of space. Our algorithm seems to be able to solve, for example, the Poisson equation discretized on an...

A Multigrid Method for Nonlinear Unstructured Finite Element Elliptic Equations

This paper presents an application of the element agglomeration-based coarsening procedure (agglomeration AMGe) proposed in [10], to build the components of a multigrid method for solving nonlinear finite element elliptic equations on general unstructured meshes. The agglomeration-based AMGe offers the ability to define coarse elements and element matrices, provided access to elements and eleme...

Efficient Finite Element Geometric Multigrid Solvers for Unstructured Grids on GPUs

Fast, robust and efficient multigrid solvers are a key numerical tool in the solution of partial differential equations discretised with finite elements. The vast majority of practical simulation scenarios requires that the underlying grid is unstructured, and that high-order discretisations are used. On the other hand, hardware is quickly evolving towards parallelism and heterogeneity, even wi...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Parallel Multigrid Algorithms for Unstructured 3D Large Deformation Elasticity and Plasticity Finite Element Problems

Multigrid is a popular solution method for the set of linear algebraic equations that arise from PDEs discretized with the nite element method. The application of multigrid to unstructured grid problems, however, is not well developed. We discuss a method that uses many of the same techniques as the nite element method itself, to apply standard multigrid algorithms to unstructured nite element ...
